Taiwan became the first Asian country to legalize same-sex marriage back in 2019. But the public soon realized there's still a long way to go to achieve real equality. Taipei City Center for Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault arranged a series of classes for social workers to learn more about the LGBTQ community and the impact of the Enforcement Act of the Judicial Yuan Interpretation No. 748. The training started from the basics to the more advanced classes for more in-depth discussions. In the basic classes, the participants got to meet experts from the Taiwan Tongzhi (LGBTQ+) Hotline Association. The experts shared their expertise in Taiwanese LGBTQ culture and the challenges LGBTQ people face in daily life, including discrimination, family acceptance issues, and more. In the advanced training, the LGBTQ volunteers were there to help the participants improve their understanding through mock interviews.
